Oshiomhole Vs Airhiavbere: Tribunal Closes Hearing, Judgement Awaited

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin yesterday concluded hearing in a petition by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Maj.-Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (rtd.), against the re-election of Governor Adams Oshiomhole in the July 14, 2012, state governorship poll.
Airhiavbere had approached the tribunal to challenge Oshiomhole’s eligibility to contest the election, just as he alleged election irregularities.
Tribunal head, Justice Muazu Pindiga, after submission of adoption of written addresses by parties to the case, including lead counsel to the petitioner, Chief Efe Akpofure (SAN), counsel to 1st respondent (Governor Oshiomhole), Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) and Adetunji Oyeyipo, SAN, (for 3rd to 5th respondent), reserved ruling for a later.
“Case has closed, judgement date will be communicated to all parties in due course,” said the tribunal chairman.
Meanwhile the supreme Court sitting in Abuja will today rule on the application of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole brought by his counsels challenging the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Benin ordering the Election Tribunal to open hearing on the qualification of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole which had earlier been thrown out by Justice Suleiman Ambursa.
