Yobe - The Joint Task Force (JTF) on security in Yobe on Thursday destroyed assorted illicit drugs seized during anti-terrorism operations in Damaturu and Potiskum. Lt. Eli Lazarus, the spokesman of the force, told newsmen in Damaturu that the JTF found it necessary to carry out public destruction of the drugs.
Lazarus said this was "because most of the youth involved in terrorism do so under the influence of these illicit drugs and substances". The spokesman urged parents to monitor their wards and ensure that they did not associate with persons of questionable character.
Lazarus said the force had begun public awareness campaign on the need to contribute towards ensuring peace and security in the state. "The fight against the menace of terrorism is a collective responsibility and people should volunteer to provide the JTF with relevant information.
"You should also endeavour to report strange and suspicious persons or movements in your nieghbourhood to security operatives. "You should not rent out facilities, including houses and shops, to people you do not know,” he said.
Lazarus advised members of the public to avoid harbouring persons whose background was unknown. He warned members of the public against boarding vehicles along highways and to always subject themselves for search at security check points.
